You Are What You Speak

There is so much power in our words. Power to change our lives! I just finished reading a book by Dr. Caroline Leaf entitled, “Who Switched Off My Brain.” Dr. Leaf does an excellent job in describing how toxic thoughts effect us emotionally, spiritually and even physically. Many, if not most, illnesses can be attributed to toxic thinking.

If we will change the way we think, it will change the way we feel, it will change the way we act.

Jesus said in Matt. 12:34b, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. “

The amazing thing is this, by the power of God, we can change our minds! We can detox our brains and have a completely new life! “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

It’s amazing how we support and participate in toxic thoughts. Why do we want to be so negative? Why do we speak what we don’t really want? Is it the fleshly default? Well there is good news – it doesn’t have to be that way! Change!! Begin by speaking the promises of God. Speak blessing instead of cursing. Speak love instead of hate. Speak forgiveness instead of revenge and bitterness.

I highly recommend this book. It is technical in places, but there is a practical plan for detoxing your brain at the end. This book and this concept will change you life!

I plan on doing a bible class on this topic in the next couple of weeks. I would appreciate and resources or insights you may have on this topic. May God bless your thoughts and speech!

  1. You are speaking my language. I am totally in agreement with this, and I will pick up the book. Also this point. We are incapable of changing the way we think, without God’s help, period. Great stuff. Glad to have you onboard. Nepotism isn’t such a bad thing after all.

  2. So true Kurt! Imagine how our lives would change as we put God’s word into our hearts and minds! I am an ardent supporter of memorizing scripture.

  3. I’ll add it to the list. I was looking for some more good reads. I am (slowly) working my way through “Quiet Strength” by Tony Dungy.
